The Home Stand That Was: One Goat's Opinion
Home Game 19 - December 15, 2010

And the beat(ing of the Caps) goes on.
(I was gonna put a picture of Sonny and Cher, with Ovechkin's head in place of Sonny Bono…
… but I got worried about lawyers.)

Were there some bright spots? Sure. Were there some improvements over the last week or so? I guess so. Did the Caps win? Nope. And that, in the end, bums me out. As a man who puts together an entertaining and eclectic four-hour block of music each week might say: "Yuck! With a hand gesture!" But was it all bad?

On The Ice
The Caps took a lot of shots. It was the ones that they didn't take that seemed to make the offensive difference for them last night. Add the normal "trying too hard to make the same tricks work" problems that have become the norm lately, and it's another frustrating night for those looking for the high-octane Caps.

That said, I think the defense did an admirable job for the most part. Of course, it's always the sequences that aren't included in those "most parts" that hurt the most.

In The Stands
The losing streak is definitely taking its toll on the enthusiasm levels of a lot of the crowd. Add in the usual early-to-mid-December blahs that usually hit F Street, and it's not exactly a recipe for the most exuberant gathering you could think of.

Maybe everybody was more worried about whether they'd set their DVR for the premiere of "24/7" last night instead of the game? Yeah, that's the ticket!

Above Our Heads And Beyond
A montage of Duck Hunt after the Caps goal. 'Nuff said, in a very positive way.

And So…
The saga continues. A trip on the road is sometimes a nice bit of tonic for a team struggling at home. Unfortunately, the last time that thought crossed my mind, we got last Sunday night. Let's hope for an upgrade this time around.
